I used windows all day yesterday. no issues. this morning, I attempt to turn it on and it fails to load, restarts itself without me noticing, then booted into ubuntu. So, I restarted and chose windows again. Noticed it failed to boot, repeated and this time I recv'd the options startup repair or start normally. startup repair fails to restore or fix errors. it claims i recently attached a camera or storage device and to remove it. i haven't attached anything but a set of headphones which were not plugged in at shutdown last night or startup this morning.

I installed some citrix plug ins for school yesterday. but everything worked all day. i don't know what to do since it won't even boot into safe mode. please advise what my next step should be?

    edit: additional attempts:
will not load cmd prompt will not load last known good config. what i state below is what happens during any boot option:

loads files, then either goes to the windows logo startup screen or flashes shows a mouse point, flashes two - three more times then restarts. Ubuntu is working.

Failed to restore from restore points

Booted into CD. Failed to restore from restore points. Restored from System Image 10/25. The only difference made in the system yesterday was a critical windows update. I don't have time to look at what it was as, I am now two hrs behind on my data analysis class & stats homework...... what can be done to research updates before letting them install. Is it suggested to turn off auto updates & check for them frequently, then search others posts to see if anyone is having trouble with them.

PC work fine all day until I shutdown last night letting it auto install a windows update.

If you don't have time to research information then perhaps you are looking in the wrong place for assistance.

This is not an instant messaging support forum, no one is paid here and people from all over the world log in here (what is 10am for you may be 1am for others).

I suggest you either make the time or ask a local technician for assistance.

wildfire, put out the fire. When I finish what I am behind on I will research what it was. I was simply stating I don't have time RIGHT NOW. Sorry you felt the need to be that way today. Thanks for your input. Very helpful. Do you happen to have a real suggestion or maybe what you yourself do for the windows updates? Since, you don't know me I find the time to finish posts when they are done. with the follow through to whatever resolved the situation if it is ever resolved. I only know of two still hanging. One for Vista which will never resolve & one for a external HDD which, I plan to resolve when I am on winter break & now that my PC is built.

and if that wasn't clear enough for you I suggest you read this:
I will research the critical update that trashed my windows last night & post back if it is deemed as the relevant cause.

"put out the fire ". It's wild! :)

Once you post the windows update which subsequenty resulted in (not neccesarily caused) your problem we can perhaps help further. Information is priceless. :)

Posts suggesting you don't have the time won't carry much favour here, though now I understand what you were saying.

    IE9 for W7 x64
    W7 x64 (KB2603229)
Definition Update for Microsoft Sec Essentials KB2310138 (Definition 1.115.904.0)
    .NET Framework 4 Client Profile W7 x64 (KB982670)

I also successfully reinstalled the citrix plug in. The PC rebooted just fine this time. Searched & found no other instances of last night updates crashing anyone else.

Wildfire, I already explained to you I meant RIGHT NOW. I don't post, "I don't have the time to search my own issues." Forgive me for not finishing the sentence. I am not a forum noob. Here or elsewhere. I search & resolve most of my own issues. This one was special.

Can we assume the issue has now been resolved?

So far so good. I've rebooted several times & also installed some new updates thursday. I cannot find any other related issues here or elsewhere with KB2603229. So, thread resolved.
