I am trying to set up a multiple modem RRAS server using a USB hub and four modems (to avoid having to use a whole lot of com ports as this will grow in time) - using windows 2000 server. Anyway, everytime the server reboots, there is only one modem listed as installed in device manager, the rest are sitting under USB devices as having drivers not correctly installed . It is seemingly random as to which one is listed as working.

If I unplug/replug each of the others then they'll come online again until the next reboot.

any suggestions, reset/ini strings that I might need to activate on startup, most welcome

    Kindest regards,
    mike

Is the USB hub self or BUS powered? Are the modems and/or hub on the HCL?

If you scan for hardware changes in device manager does that re-detect the modems? If you disable the modems, reboot and enable them one by one, does that work?

    hi unixfan,
    the hub is self powered.
the modem(s) are not on the hcl list and the hubs base chipset (TI-2046) appears to be on the hcl for 98 and XP but not 2000.

the disable-restart-enable-restart sequence didn't have any effect (no surprising really given hcl status)

so my 'big picture' question (providing I can obtain hcl approved equipment) is, is there anything that will stop the scenario I outlined working in principal. That is, can you use multiple modems off the same usb hub without issues?

    regards,
    MIke
