When I restarted w2k I get a message to Ctrl-Alt-delete to start then it asks for a password, I don't remember putting on a password, or if I did what it could possibly be. Is there any way to get past this. I was told that if I defrag this message will quit coming up? How do I get past it to defrag? If that will work. Or do you know anything else that will help? Thanks.

I suggest that you don't ask whoever told you "if you defrag this message will quit coming up" for any more help.

If you are on a business network, your network administrator should be able to change your password to something you choose.

Win2K is pretty serious about password issues. If you have one for your login account (and you evidently do - either you set one or someone else with administrative rights on the PC set yours) then you are pretty much dead unless you can find out what it is or have it changed by someone who can get logged on and has enough rights.

Rule #6 on this forum will prevent anyone from even offering suggestions on bypassing the login password unless they want to be banned from the forum.

You might try logging on using the username of administrator and either password or administrator (both in lower case). All 2K systems will have an administrator account and if someone set this one up using the defaults, they may well have left those values in there.

Otherwise, format & reinstall 2K (losing everything you have on the PC) is about the only way.
