I'm logged on w/FULL Admin rights, although, not on any netwk. I'm using a 3Com 56K FaxModem. I've chked the Fax Management under Cntrl Panel and everything seems to be set correctly. Now, when I send a fax, it just sits on "Initializing ".

With the combination of your daylight savings time issue and this one, I wonder if you have problems with some system files or junk files. Try the following which may clear up the problems but at worst will smooth the operation of your system. So these in order

    - Open My Computer, right-click each drive, select properties and then disk cleanup. Let it run and then delete what it finds. Do this for each drive/partition.
    - delete all temporary internet files and cookies via your browser
    - start~run~cmd and then chkdsk x: /r (where "x" is any disk or partition you have and do them all). Reboot when needed.
    - download and run both ad-aware and spybot to get rid of spyware/malware. Both have recent versions and recent ref file updates so if you have the apps but older than a couple of months, get new copies.
    - start~run~sfc /scannow
    - if you don't already have SP3 loaded, download it and after you have it on your PC, install it. Don't do the install over the internet.

    Newt,

Thanks much for the assist. One question though. Re: dwnloading SP3 and NOT installing from the web. That's precisely what I wanted to do, so I wouldn't have to download it (On Dialup, no less) all over again, but I never could figure out how to do it, or it never gave me such an option. Can you advise me on where I missed the boat on that? Also, is it pretty much the same trick for all the other apps that are set up the same way these days. I hate that!

    Tanx,

    George

    Fax Fix Didn't Fix it

    Newt,

I've just now retried my fax driver after all the fix suggestions. (SP3, Chkdisk, etc...), and it's still not working. Any suggestions?

    Tanx,

    George

Is Fax Service enabled in Services? I must set mine to automatic to use my fax modem (then I set it back to manual when finished).

Also, make sure that the dialup connection isfully closed prior to faxing. You may need to end task on some processes specific to your modem. I know in win98, rnapp (dial up networking) stayed resident by default for at least 5 minutes after closing an internet connection. I don't have dial up anymore so I'm not sure if rnapp is even on win2k.
