I don't know if it has been mentioned in here before or not, but I had problems getting the update and installing W10.

I tried 25 times over a weeks time (whenever I had a little extra time) and after about an hour each time my computer would just stop and up would come a little box saying "process failed ".

After many searches I found a solution for the problem, tried it and I now have W10 upgraded from W7 Pro.

I had to go to "msconfig" and restart my computer in "normal mode" and that did the trick.

    Hope this may help others.

    Somewhat similar situation

I had the same thing happen to me. I ran Windows Update until I had the latest of everything on the system. Now the Update process will start but nothing ever downloads. I let the Update process run for 48 hours but it never got past the initial screen.

Make sure you only have 1 HDD connected when running the W10 Upgrade. Disconnect any peripherals and add one at a time after the W10 is running OK. Neil.

    Peripherals

I have only 1 HDD. The only other thing I can think of are external speakers.

Have you tried the MS suggestion of a Restart? Not a normal shut down. I don't know what your current OS is and therefore can only suggest that you follow MS directions when upgrading from W7 or from W8.1.
All your MS updates MUST be up to date. Check for updates for your hardware/printers/graphic cards etc,.
Disable any 3rd party Anti-Virus programs you have operating as these can be re-installed after the upgrade is completed.
MS Defender will protect the system during install and will auto stop/cease when/if you install a 3rd. party AV.
Make sure you backup first and have a copy of your OS product key. I have found that with only your 1 (one) active HDD/SSD connected, that the upgrade to W10 has been flawless.
DON'T rush to click 'upgrade' until you are absolutely sure you have your current OS operating 100% trouble free as any 'bugs' 'problems' will be migrated with the upgrade and may prevent a successful upgrade.
I can only re-iterate that ALL my upgrades to W10 went trouble-free - from W7 Pro and W8.1 Home and Pro and 2 Insider Build installs. Neil.

I have used all 3 options - ISO to DVD - Media Tool to USB - and MS upgrade via WU. All worked 100% OK.
My previous suggestion for work to do BEFORE trying the upgrade, still applies. Neil.

Can you tell me which version of Windows 10 you trying to upgrade. And anyway did you got a chance to run the Windows 10 upgrade adviser. it will diminish any update issues or bugs that can be a reason for the update to fail.
