    Hi,

When I double-click on the speaker icon in Windows 98, I get the Volume Control panel. Then, when I click on Options | Properties, and check the Recording option, I get a neat VU meter which I have always used to monitor recording levels for audio file creation, much the same as my open reel and cassette machines.

When I look on my Win2K PC, this useful panel is missing:(

Can someone please tell me if there is a way I can get this option in Windows 2000? It would be really nice if I can find such an option in 2000, as I think 2000 has all the features I like, unlike 98 or XP.

    TIA.

If you really want the features of a VU meter, you might do better with http://software.xfx.net/activex/dxvu/ or some other dedicated application.

I sorta kinda remember a level indicator in 98 but if it was included with 2K I've not run across it.

    Hello Newt,

Thanks SO much for the link. I will go to that link and download their product.

Yes, I wish there was an add-on feature for Windows 2000. However, as the need for a VU meter overrides my need for security features, I have decided to install Win98 on my laptop.

Even so, if you hear of anything else, please feel free to email me.

    Thanks.

Harry - if I run across anything I'll post it here. You might want to set this thread to email you whenever someone posts to it.

If I read correctly, that app will run with 2K so you shouldn't need 98 loaded.

Thanks so much. Yes, I had already set it to email notification:)

I did go to that site, but as it is shareware, just wanted to know - is there a freeware software that does this?

    TIA.

None that I was able to locate. Otherwise I would certainly have posted a link.

There may be some but it will take some fancy searching to locate it or maybe posting to a forum that specializes in Music stuff.
