Hey guys...just me again with another problem:(

I uninstalled the trial version of Zone Alarm, and now when I
boot the PC it says something about VSDATA95.VXD missing,
    press any key to continue.

Anyway, I couldn't find any reference to that file except in
my registry. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks again Daizy...that got it!

Was kind of nervous, since I don't usually mess with the
registry. But, it booted just fine.

By the way, do you know of a good freeware for cleaning out the registry (I'm feeling bold, now) :D

Not a big fan, huh. Well, coming from you...maybe I should hold-off. I had heard cleaning it made your PC faster. But, I guess it's
    fast enough.

Lots of other things you can do to speed up your computer without risking the damage that a registry cleaner could do.

Have you changed the typical role of your computer to a network server?

Been through msconfig and unchecked all unneccessary apps from loading at start up?

    Ran Ad-aware?

Cleaned out your temp files lately?

    Scandisked and Defragged?

Lots of simple things that will show a noticeable difference.

Go into msconfig, and under the start up tab, uncheck any unneccessary things from running at start up.
(start...run...type in: msconfig click ok...and check under the start up tab)
Here are two links to tell you what those items are:

    Msconfig entries
    and
    More of the same

Post back if you can't figure out what some of the entries are and whether to uncheck them.

I'm sure Daizy won't mind if I add my 2 cents ;) but it should go without saying that, before you use msconfig to disable various starup programs, look within the program's own options and preferences.

For example, to keep Real Player from starting when Windows starts, open the program, click View, Preferences, click the Start Center Settings button. UNcheck the option to Enable Start Center..

Okay...I think I'm in pretty good shape in my "startup" stuff.

    1. Taskmonitor
    2. Systray
    3. LoadPowerProfile
    4. Em_Exec (this is my mouse driver)
    5. SchedulingAgent

And a few others for my firewall and virus programs

    Hi again Breakout
You should already be noticing some speed increases. Have you changed the typical role of the computer yet?

    Thanks for hopping in Alice.

Okay...thanks Daizy, Alice and Bmoore. I'll set it to
    server, then scan and defrag.

That should about cover it. So, until I get myself in trouble
    again...talk to ya later!. :p
