I was using a PC with Windows 2000 at home, and connecting to the Network at work with a VPN connection. My work place has NT servers with WINS connection, this required my VPN connection to use NETBEUI as well as TCP/IP. Everything worked fine. I have since upgraded my home PC to a PC running XP Home. Setting up the VPN connection on XP will not allow the use of NETBEUI. I have installed NetBEUI on the XP machine, but it still want allow it to be used in the VPN connection. I can connect to the work network but there is no routing. Since I am the only employee that has XP at home, my work place is not ready to change to DNS servers. Is there a way I can fix this problem?

    Couple of comments here.

    1. I imagine that you needed NetBT (NetBios over TCP/IP) rather than NetBEUI (NetBIOS Extended User Interface) before to work with WINS which maintains a database of NetBIOS Names matched to IP addresses.

But since NetBEUI can/does use broadcasts to resolve IP address to NetBIOS names, it would have done the same job for you. Just not as efficient and lots more network noise/traffic.

    2. For now, if your network is using Domains you have a whole new problem. XP-Home doesn't do domains. Gotta have XP-Pro for that.
