Can anyone help my friend? heres his scenario...

"We've now got VPN access to our domain at work so I can work from home. The VPN is set up ok and connects, but when I try to get onto the domain (using My Computer -> Properties -> Network Identification). I select 'Domain', type it in (sdasolutions.local) and click ok (netbios name doesn't work btw). It then asks for a username and password with permission to join the domain, I type it in and it comes up with

'The network location cannot be reached. For information about network troubleshooting see Windows Help'

All I've found is to check the TCP/IP NetBIOS helper service is running (and it is). Could it be my firewall blocking something? I can ping machines on the office network (by name as well as IP so DNS must be working?) he says the machine will get added automatically when I authenticate and the fact that the VPN is working should mean I should be able to get on the domain "

I can trace route to the server correctly (its bloked deliberately so hes been told by his network guy)

"I've been putting in the domain as the 'full' name (sdasolutions.local) - the netbios 'oldskool' name doesn't seem to work at all (doesn't get to the login bit) "

Any clues anyone? I think his home machine is XP (might be 2k) but I'm not sure of the server OS or network details.

    Thanks

No ideas then eh? Oh well.....he sorted it himself.

All he needed to do was uninstall TCP/IP and reinstall it and hey presto...it worked! :)

There. I knew if no-one responded, the problem would fix itself. :)
