Hi I am using Windows XP Professional and I have recently had a problem where my VPN connection is lost after about 5 minutes of inactivity. It is very annoying. I cannot pin it down to anything I have downloaded. It is consistant however every 5 minutes of no use will log it off. I may be on the VPN and then go back to my desktop to do some internet research and when I go back no connection. I move the mouse and after 30 seconds or so it will re-connect and a moment later we are away again. Is there a setting somewhere that times out???

Check the preferences/settings of the VPN software you are using.

How do you logon to the remote connection? There must be settings for this connection somewhere on your computer. Perhaps there's a setting for "inactivity" or similar that causes the disconnect after x amount of idle time.

Or the administrator at the other end has changed the VPN system so users get disconnected after x amount of idle time.
