Hello, I'm sorry if this seems like a stupid question but i can't seem to figure out where to begin to look for an answer so here's my situation.

I have to set up a VPN so that user (outside techs and sales on laptops with sprint cards) can access files and documents on the network at the office. I don' tknow where to start to set it up. Worst part of it is. I'm working on a VERY limited budget. I cannot purchase any software or hardware. we use a netopia 3386 Router and the only server on the network is a windows 2003 Enterprise server.

Any help or any light that could be shed would be greatly apprecaited as I've never setup a VPN before.

Is there another alternative possibly of setting this up?
My budget won't allow for the purchase of any more equipment.

Could this be a temporary service until your budget can manage in-house solutions ...
Hamachi is a VPN service - winner of the 2007 Global Product Excellence Award for VPN software.

Dennis's suggestion look plausible for sure!

The method via the links I posted would cost nothing more in hardware or software than a second network card if your server has only one.
