I run Windows ME and IE 6 SP1. the problem is when arriving at a site wich requires either Visual basic scripting support or Visual graphic rendering (VML) I get a pop-up window suggesting I download what is required. There is no problem downloading either VB Scripting or Visual Graphic Rendering(VML) but neither will install on my system. Both get to about 60% installed then the whole thing hangs.....very annoying... It requires a reboot to clear the problem.....

    Hi Jim-Oz
    Welcome to the boards.
Have you tried cleaning out all your temp files, then prior to downloading, to a ctrl/alt/del and endtask on everything in the close programs dialogue box, but systray and explorer?

    Hi Daizy,

Thanks for the welcome and the idea. I will give it a try, but with those pop-up windows for download and install there does not seem to be much of a chance to exit all the programs before the install takes off.

 Well I tried it but the install still did not complete successfully. Only 1 zip file came down containing 3 files (vgx.dll vgx.inf and vgx.cat) but nothing to install it all on the system. I was directed to Windows Update to try again but lately I have found that site to be very pathetic.
Well I guess I will have to try something else. Thanks again for your help. :)

    Daizy, etal

Well I have finally found some info regarding this problem on the MS site. In true MS fashion they have known baout this problem for some time and still haven't done anything about it.....typical
The following is what I have gleaned....

Internet Explorer 5.5 is an integrated part of Windows Me and is
installed by Windows Me Setup. Under some conditions you may want
to reinstall Internet Explorer 5.5 or its components (for example,
to troubleshoot the program, or to verify that the program is
installed correctly). In this case, instead of reinstalling
Windows Me, you can install a downloadable version of Internet
Explorer 5.5. You can use this version to replace core browser,
scripting, Outlook Express, and MSN Messenger files. However,
when you use Internet Explorer 5.5 Setup, the following Internet
Explorer 5.5 components cannot be installed on the Windows Me
    operating system:

    Internet Explorer Help
    Microsoft virtual machine
    Internet Connection Wizard
    Internet Explorer Core Fonts
    Dynamic HTML Data Binding
    NetMeeting
    Windows Media Player
    Windows Media Player Codecs
    Vector Graphics Rendering (VML)
    AOL ART Image Format Support
    Macromedia Shockwave Player
    Macromedia Flash Player
    Web Folders
    Additional Web Fonts

Also refer to this URL for more details:

    Thanks again :)

    Hi Jim-Oz
Glad you got it all sorted. Thanks so much for taking the time to post back with the solution.
