Windows Vista Vista Ultimate 32bit Auto Updates keep Failing?

Hello and thank you for taking a moment to read this thread. I have recently custom built a PC and installed Vista Ultimate on it. However, a large majority of the updates fail to install. I initially had the PC set to auto update at 3am every morning. Unfortunately, the PC would hang for hours at the "Windows is configuring updates" screen; then it would say "Shutting Down" and it would hang indefinitely at that screen. I would then have to manually shut down and restore my system to the last known working configuration. I cannot even put it in standby or hibernate because it tells me that windows was unexpectedly shut down. Here are my PC Specs:

My System Information
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66ghz
Motherboard: Asus P5N-E SLI
Mem: G.Skill 2gb (2 x 1gb) 240pin ddr2 sdram
HDD: Nvidia Stripe 298.10gb (320gb); 2 160gb drives rated zero
Video: Nvidia Geforce 8800gts 320mb
Sound: Onboard Sound Only
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
Monitor: Gateway tft lcd Monitor fpd2185w 1680x1050
ISP: Verizon

 

This is known to help in some cases:

Go to Internet Options > Security Tab > 'Trusted sites' icon > click Sites then uncheck 'Require server verification'. Now add these 2 sites http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com and http://*.windowsupdate.com.
Click Close, Apply and OK.

 

Thank you so much! It worked and I now have everything updated successfully!!! I even have Dreamscene on my PC now!!! One small question though; I downloaded Dreamscene from the windows update list 2 or 3 times and it still has it listed as an extras download. Is it new Dreamscene content or just the same thing. Thanks again!!!

 

Sorry, I don't know. I tried Dreamscene and it made me dizzy so I quickly abandoned it.
