I have a fairly new computer and am running Vista 64bit. My screensaver was not working on anything but the 1 minute setting. I searched and found a possible correction by downloading an MS update "HID Non-User Input and Data Filter ".

That fixed the problem as far as being able to change the time setting, but created a new problem. Previously, my screensaver showed my pictures in full screen size. Now they all show at 640/480.

My question: how can I get my screensaver back to showing pictures in full screen size?

I'm a newbie here and would appreciate all replies.

I have read the "Similar Threads ", but that did not help. I hope someone has an idea about how to fix my problem of not being able to get my screensaver to show pictures in full screen.

    Appreciate all replies - Norm

As of 16 Dec 08, I haven't had a response to my screensaver question and I am thinking that maybe I did something wrong when I posted the question. Would someone please respond and tell me if my question was properly posted?

    Thanks - Norman

    Norman,
Welcome to the BBS. You've done nothing wrong and I have a theory about the slow response rate you've experienced. Since your name is "oleNorm ", its possible that some felt it may have been past your bedtime and didn't want to disturb you. OK, I wouldn't buy that excuse either - sorry for the slow response.

As to your problem, my question is - is this problem occuring just on the screensaver or is it on both the screensaver and the background?

    ;)

Thanks Rockster2U. Actually, you are pretty close to being right on it being about my bedtime.

The problem is only on the screensaver, in fact one of the pictures used in the screensaver is also used as my desktop background. As the background, it is full screen. On the screensaver, it shows as 640x480.

    Any ideas?

    Norm

This may not be exactly what you are experiencing
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959525
but may give you some hints.

It talks about resolutions, so you should check that you are using a screen resolution that suits it. If you have a wide-screen monitor, resolutions like 1680 X 1050 or 1440 X 900 are suitable (they are in the aspect ratio of 16:10). If you have a square screen, you need an aspect ratio of 4:3, like 1280 X 960 or 1024 X 768. Having a resolution that doesn't fit the screen might be making it too hard for the graphics system to show the screensavers in full screen mode and it has reverted to something easier.

Thanks for the response Matt. It does sound like the problem is definitely in the area you mentioned. However, the resolution they gave didn't mean much to me.

For resolution they said "This is a display issue only and will be resolved upon user interaction such as moving the mouse or keyboard. Upon user interaction the screensaver will exit and resize accordingly on next start. " Of course that it true because when you move the mouse or hit enter on the keyboard, the screensaver goes away, but that has nothing to do with "resolving" the problem.

I am currently using a 17" (square) Sony LCD monitor, set to 1280 x 1024.

It seems to me I may just have to live with the problem, but I would certainly appreciate all ideas and suggestions. Possibly someone out there has experienced the same problem and has the solution.

    Appreciate all response.

    Norm,

I read Matt's link and sure thought that would cure your ills but I also noticed something else in one of your earlier posts. You mentioned "one of the pictures" in your screen saver, implying that you are either running a slideshow screensaver or a third party screen saver application. Could you elaborate a little .......

    Rockster and Matt,

I just fixed the problem. First to answer Rockster, I only use whatever screen saver that MSFT provides.

Here is the deal: I had the screen saver setting set to "use pictures and videos from a file ". The file I used contained pictures only. I don't use video. The SlideShow setting is set to "Slow ". The Theme was set to "Classic ". All I did to fix it was to change the Theme setting from "Classic" to "Fade" and it started working.

Thanks guys for spurring me on until we got this fixed. Maybe this solution will also work for others that have the same problem.

    Appreciate ya!

    Norm

My own suspicions arose when you mentioned pictures instead of picture but congratulations to you for sniffing things out and thanks to Matt for pointing you in the right direction.
