its really odd, it either freezes in the 1st hr or two or doesn't at all.

sometime PC runs for days if not weeks and i have no problem but when i reboot, it will freeze with in the hr (today it froze 4 times already most with in minutes of reboot)

this is same PC >> http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-vista/88453-vista-registry-clean-up.html ( I was hoping the problem was solved)

I know i have all the latest drivers Ive been checking regularly, although i still have some doubts about the USB driver.

i also thought it might be malware, but i have:
    Windows defender
    AVG free
    and SpywareBlaster for extra protection
    all fully updated

I tried disabling the start up components in MSConfig (no result)

I realy dont know what to try next.

As you can imagine - you might try 183 different things and not know for weeks if anything or what fixed it.

What application are you using when it freezes? Is it always the same app?

either facebook.com (new to this site)
or astroempires.com (been on there for years, my xp machine had no problems with ff)

mostn if not all the times i have
    1st tab igoogle
    2nd tab gmail
    3rd tab astroempire
    4th tab facebook (mafia wars)
    5th tab facebook (all over)

allot of times freeze happened right after i click a link in Astroempires, or in the Mafia wars app.

I moderate for a company that has many sites very similar to WindowsBBS;)

All weekend and through yesterday - one of the ads on the site(s) would lock up Internet Explorer tight as a drum...It was the "flash" animation in the ad that caused it...

I've never used FF - but if it has the option to run with ad-ons you could try that..

since FF is the main suspect, here is some additional info:
I use version 3.5.5, have it set to auto update since day one.

    Add-ons installed:
    - adblock plus v. 1.1.1
    - AVG safe search 9.0.0.701 (i upgraded to AVG 9 the day before i started this thread)
    - Dictionnaire Hunspell (French) v2.1
    - Download StatusBar
    - FEBE 6.3 (i got this one when i was doing my post ff 64 cleanup the thread mentioned in 1st post)
    - ForecastFox
    - GreaseMonkey
    ---(scripts for GM)
---AE trade helper (will add url for script if needed)
---AE Helper CP V4.884 (will add url for script if needed)

Edit: after posting the above i decided to make a small test.
around noon i restarted my PC, and instead of starting FF directly i decided to wait, so i launched Chrome instead and went about my normal business (same sites as usual, but with fewer tabs open) about 45 minutes later i quit chrome and launched FF (starting a new session, instead of restoring the previous one) its almost 3pm and PC did not freeze yet.

    dose that help in anyway?
