    I read Arie's article on which version of Vista is best for individual needs. I also have read other online articles related to the same topic.

    I would like feedback / suggestions related to purchasing Vista OEM Full Version (at a minimum Home Premium OEM).

    I have read that you cannot reactivate with motherboard change, and I have also read that you can, so I don't know which is correct.

    I have also read that Microsoft uses a ten point check system to link an individual computer with a particular license of any Windows OS. Mainly hardware components installed on that computer.

    So, my question(s):

    1.) How many, and or, which hardware components can one change on a computer before Microsoft/Windows disallows a reactivation of the Windows license for that particular computer.

    2.) Is it true that any change to a motherboard will invalidate an installed OEM version of Vista (not allowing reactivation), or any version of Windows for that matter?

    3.) I am one who reformats at least 3 times a year. Will this cause a problem with reactivation?

    4.) Is OEM a watered down version, or full version? All I have read would indicate that it is a full version, just without the fluff of nice packaging and documentation or support.

    All comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Tarheelfan001

    I'm not sure if Microsoft made changes since Windows XP. Have a look here: More On Windows XP Product Activation

    No idea on OEM. On 'Normal' version it doesn't have to be a problem. I got 2 new motherboards on my latest Dell laptop (because Dell send me the wrong video card), and didn't have to re-activate.

    No.

    Normally full version, but OEMs can make changes. So for example with XP, some wouldn't include the \VALUEADD\ folder, which means that if you have XP Home, you have no way to install XP's backup program. I don't know the situation with Vista OEM's.
