For some reason windows Vista is no longer prompting for user password at startup, yet, in netplwiz there is a check mark for requesting password at startup. Anyone know why?

I don't know if this will work. Go back into netplwiz uncheck for requesting password at startup apply ok. restart. After you are rebooted go back into netplwiz recheck asking for password at startup apply and ok then restart see if it will prompt you for a password.

Unfortunately, I unchecked, re-booted, checked, re-booted and it is still not prompting for a password?

Did you try System Restore? If you know when this started select a restore point just before the problem started.

Thanks, Just noticed it a few days ago, but, don't know how long. Not too thrilled about system restores. Will keep looking for another fix. This same computer sometimes drops the notification icons. Taskkill.docx fixes that problem for awhile.

Try changing your password to see if this will prompt you when booting up.

I am working on my taxes on this computer, and the problem started before I started doing the taxes. Am afraid to restore, might lose tax data. Also, afraid to change password for same reason. Am using Norton 360 and Malwarebytes anti malware and they have not detected any viruses or malware. Very strange use to get the user name and locked which also no longer show up at startup. Computer starts up just fine but without the prompt for a login. Am at a lose as to why?

Tried system restore back to two weeks and it did not solve problem. The computer was returned to Toshiba about 2 weeks ago to fix the plug for the power source. When I went to pick up the computer they turned it on to make sure it was working. I don't remember them asking me to type in my password? Maybe they by passed it somehow?

Went to user account and saw that there was no password(don't know where it went). In create new password I entered my original password and now I am getting the prompt to enter my password.:)
