Ok I have had this problem for about as long as I can remember and I am at my wits end.

I have an Audigy ZS2 Pro Platnium sound card. I am running on Vista Enterprise. I have a Sicuro 5.1 Surround system with enhancement feature.

    The problem:

If I go to sounds in the control panel and go to configure speakers it checks all my speakers including the subwoofer and they all work great. Yet when I am listening to music or doing anything the subwoofer never gets used. THe only time I can get it to be used is if I press the enhance button on my speakers which is only supposted to help computers with 2.0 such as laptops and PDAs achieve a bass. But if i do that my rear to speakers don't have much sound. Now this is starting to **** me off. I do not have an enhancements tab nor can i find anywhere to enable it or to find the reverse bass management tab.

I really need some help. Please help me make my subwoofer be used by vista so I can enjoy games, music, videos and everything. I am sick of this. What the hell is going on.

Oh an what really ***** is that the latest driver for my card is from March 16th of 2007 and the only thing it comes with is a Creative audio console with **** for options. Not even a bass booster button.

Please help I can't take it anymore.

Sound card drivers or lack there of have been one of the bigger problems with Vista. It's up to the card makers to come up with correct/drivers that work. Have you been to the card makers web site?

Yes i have been to the the creative website but they do not h ow a function in the creative audio control to enable the use of the subwoofer. Yet somehow vista recognizes it and does not use it.

    Hi,
Interesting problem, I would love to be in front of your computer to tackle it (masochist? :D ).

The "test" bypasses whatever appears to be filtering out the subwoofer channel. I would expect that there is a "controller" somewhere that has that channel reduced or muted. It might be say, an equalizer.

I have two icons in my notification tray for audio, Vista's and the audio manufacturer's. The manufacturer's settings may be filtering out the sound supplied by Vista.

You should be able to uninstall the Creative audio "console" in Control Panel -> Programs and Features. The drivers should still be installed for Vista, so see if it works without the console. You can reinstall if it is not the source of the problem (or helps you find the problem).

Does the computer have built-in audio? You may need to disable it in the BIOS/startup configuration settings and uninstall any software for it (then reinstall the Creative software and drivers).

I would look at the problem this way, the Vista test can run the speaker, in normal running the speaker is being blocked. I would expect something apart from Vista is blocking the signal.

I am looking around via the Vista "Volume" icon. Under Playback Devices you can select the device. Try highlighting the Speakers listing and click the Properties button. There are some tests/checks there, under the different tabs.

YES THE tests uses the subwooferr but nothing else such as games, videos, winamps, etc. don't use it. Its like the music is not filtered to the subwoofer

I found these in a search for subwoofer at the Creative knowledgebase.
