    Hi all
Yesterday my Vistalaptop refused to connect to the internet via IE7.
The self repair Vista tool tried resetting the wireless adapter but this didn't work & stated an unspecified problem remains preventing connection!

I tried to install MS KB 938979 (dl on desktop computer & transfer to laptop via usb pen drive) but this wouldn't install.
I tried system restore to reset computer settings to a day earlier but that won't work!
(Strangely I can connect on the laptop to FICS-chess server via the network).

Can anyone please offer me further help.
I look forward to some replies-thanks

I had a similar problem to this, Vista updates popped up and I let them run, what I didn't see was an updated driver for my wireless adaptor which when loaded cut off my internet connection completely. Tried the usual stuff like rebooting and checking the network settings but it still wouldn't work.

I then looked through the updates and spotted the Wireless adaptor, I then ran restore and then it all connected up fine. I just re-installed the updates except for the Wireless adaptor.

Job done and no more problems with connections, I aways check form now on what gets updated before allowing it to run.

This may not be a solution to your problem but it's worth a try tracking back to see what has been loaded since you lost your connection.
