A friend got a sakar camera it is a nice little toy however it has a usb 1 interface. I downloaded the driver from their site bit when I attach the camera it says I need to load a driver for the camera. It recognizes that the camer is there but will not interface. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. I am running windows vista home premium with pleenty of ram and all usb ports seem fully functional except for this problem.
    Thanks

It "will not interface" until the correct driver is installed. (Note: If the camera is really old, a Vista driver may not exist).

What is the camera's model number?

Did you try downloading the correct driver from Sakar?

Hi, did you Download the Vista driver from Sakar site?
You may have a compatibility problem.
When you connect the camera by USB and you switch on the camera, Right click on My Computer > Right click on Removable Disc > Properties > Hardware > click on Sakar camera > Properties > Driver > Driver Details and see if your Sakar diver is shown.
Also, have a look in Device Manager and see if your camera is shown in Disc Drives.
From there you can re-install driver. Neil.

    No joy

I can go in seethe problem in the equipment but reinstalling new software for the Sakar does not resolve it nomatter what I do it asks for a driver for the usb 1. I am about to file the camera to the trash heap of history. Doesen't seem it should be this hard but seems Sakar(vivitar) can not come up with a working usb 1 driver.

Bit hard to understand as usually when you plug in a USB 2.0 device - the OS will tell you that the device will operate quicker in a USB 2 connector if the USB connector is USB 1.0???
I understand that USB 2.0 works backward compatible with USB 1.0 and ditto for USB 3.0.

The camera should work on this basis - unless something is oddball as SpywareDr suggests. Neil.

    Have checked all software

I have pretty good malware and virus software and have also run housecall several time so feel pretty confident it is not that. Did one time get some message about an incompatibility between the multimode camera (what ever that is) and vista but was assured by Sakar(Vivitar) that it is fully compatible. So in total I am lost:confused:

Hi Robert, I just tried an experiment. My wife has a Vivitar ViviCam 3715 3.3 Mega Pixel Digital camera which she purchased in Hawaii in 2004.
I had a read in the Instruction Manual: Installing the USB driver on Windows Computers.
[The USB driver on the supplied CD-ROM is exclusively for Windows 98. Installing the USB driver on computers running Windows 2000/ME/XP is not necessary.]
I connected the camera to comp cable and plugged it into my comp (Vista Business) and switched on the camera - and a message came on the camera LCD screen saying connected to the computer. Sweet as!
I downloaded photos my wife had on the disc from 2007 into my Picasa 3.9.
    No problems at all.
Have you checked your cable is OK? Neil.

Robert when you go into > Device Manager > Portable Devices > Left click on + and expand > does it show Sakar camera?
If you Double click on that > what do you see?
do you have an Exclamation mark on your Universal Serial Bus Controllers? Neil.

When you try to > Update Driver > a screen will appear with 2 options?
Browse my computer for Driver Software?
Your USB Driver you Downloaded is where? Desktop or Download Folder?
Open your Download Folder and locate the USB Driver and put that location in the Browse window and OK. It should then be able to install driver. Neil.

Hi Robert, just been doing a search for info and found this link.
You cannot install a device driver by using its installation program in Windows Vista.

Have a look and see if it helps. Neil.
