A Repair of Vista should not lose any data,.

The other alternative is to connect the drive to a desktop via a 2 1/2" > 3 1/2" adaptor and copy the data off.

windows failed to start.a recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

    file: \windows\system32\config\system

    status: 0xc000014c

info: windows failed to load because the system registryfile is missing, or corrupt.

if i run a repair do you think it will fix the problem...and if repair doesn't fix the problem will the data be lost...

PETEC...i never tried to do what your saying...i should say i dont know how to do what your saying...i wouldn't mind learning it...i do appreciate all your help...thanks guys...

As I do not use Vista I pointed you to a number of references on Google re. repairing. I cannot be more specific as my experience of repairing Vista is zilch :)
