Help:I am using windows vista but when I turn the computer on it goes right to configuring updates 3 0f 3 but does not configure and shuts down and starts back up again to the same screen over and over again.

Can someone help me with this problem and tell me what I can do to fix it>

Hi rmabeus. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Do you have a Windows Vista DVD? If you do then insert the DVD and allow your computer to boot from the DVD. After you have booted from the DVD choose the option to repair your computer. After you choose that option click on system restore and restore your computer to an earlier date.

If you don't have a Windows Vista DVD press F8 on startup and select Safe Mode. Does your computer boot now? If not then select F8 again and press Last Known Good Configuration. See if those options work.

    Evan,
Thanks for the response but I do not have the DVD. It came pro-loaded in the computer. We have tried to re-boot many times but it starts and scrolls down a bunch of numbers and then shuts down again. We have tried everything. We have tried everything

So I assume you tried Safe Mode and Last Known Good Configuration? Could you maybe borrow a Vista DVD from a friend or co worker?

Evan, I just tried pushing F8 but nothing happens. It goes back to the screen that saying configuring 3 of 3 0% completed, shuts down and does the same thing again. WHen we try to go to the safe mode screen it is hit and miss. We can not log into the computer or anything

Did the computer come with recovery disks or a hidden partition that would restore the computer to factory settings?

Evan, this problem just popped up all of the sudden. The computer has not been on for a week and when my son went to turn it on last night the problem occured. As I said it starts coming on, the screen says configuring 3 of 3 0 complete and then it waits a bit then shuts down and starts back up again. We have tried rebooting, safe mode and everything.

Good. You can try creating a Windows Vista Recovery Disk to repair your computer. Read this, Create a Windows Vista Recovery Disk. If you can't create a recovery disk then I am afraid I don't know what else to suggest. :( You may have to bring your computer to a repair shop to get it fixed if you can't use or create a Vista Recovery Disk.

    Vista recovery disc

    Evan,
What he has is a windows vista recovery disc. Is it too hard to fix myself or should I just take it in for maintenence?

Try and use the recovery disk first before bringing the computer into a repair shop. If you run into trouble then let me know and I will try to help you out.

In the future, make sure you have those recovery discs. They are very important. You are supposed to make them when you set up the computer when you first got it.

I have a HP laptop and when I first bought it I had to make my own recovery disc's, or if I wanted to, I had the option to but them. I just made them. There is a program called recovery manager that lets you make them. The disc's will only work on the computer that make them. Hopefully the Geek Squad will make you some recovery disc's for you.
