    Hi All

I have a sony VAIO VGX-XL100 media center pc with a new install of Vista Home Premium, however i am having some very odd issues causing a BSOD, i have a universal remote that uses a macro function to turn on my lcd, amp and switch media center to the recorded tv function when i turn it on. This generally works fine unless i have left the computer unoccupied for a few hours, where once the computer is powered on the sound card appears to lock up and the computer BSOD,s. I have updated to the latest version of the sound card drivers but this apears to have made no difference, and there dorsn't appear to be any errors logged in the system logs.

In the reliability monitor there are events logged with the details 0x00000005 (ox82f56c20, 0x81cf8740, 0x00000000, 0x00000001) which i can't find any details on anywhere, i have tried using debugwhiz to create a log file from the minidumps left by the bsod but it doesn't appear to work with vista?

The other thing to note and this makes me suspsect it may be another piece of hardware causing the issue, is that the sound card makes the same lockup noise, though only temporarily, when i change the resolution in the nvidia control panel. Now i have turned off the screensaver/sleep modes in case a resolution change by the screensaver was causing the problem, but again it seems to make no difference!!

So help, i am at a bit of a loss as what to do, i'm sure if i could work out what peice fo hardware or software was causing the issue i could resolve it, but i just can't seem to hunt it down.

Cheers in advance for any help!!

    Gareth

MS definition is of little help:
    From digesting several pages online:

Check the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List to verify that the hardware and its drivers are compatible. Check the Windows Vista system requirements, including the amount of RAM and disk space required to load the operating system. Also, check the Hardware Compatibility List to verify that the system can run Windows Vista.

The most common culprits are third-party applications. Other common causes of this message are the installation of a new or updated device driver, or system service. Mismatched system files can also cause this error.

Thank you for you response, i will try all those things you suggested, my pc is rated suitable by sony for vista home premium, i will try doing some ram and hardware testing to see if that throws up any clues. I did have a suspicious feeling about the graphics drivers as the version of the card in my comp has hdmi output with various hdcp macrovision software that is also needed to be installed. I had installed the latest version of the nvidia drivers directly from there website, so i have installed the ones specificaly from the sony site, and i will see what happens!!

    Cheers
