Note: As I was typing this message (this is my second try) Firefox (3.0.8) just disappeared, taking my first try with it.

I've been using Firefox for years now, but this is the first time it just disappeared, for no reason, without even a crash message.

I had been using Firefox normally today for a couple of hours, but the minute I tried to access the Secunia website (www.secunia.com) Firefox just disappeared! Many subsequent tries all ended the same way.

I tried Admin mode, non-Admin mode and Safe Mode. All with the same result. I tried Firefox Portable from my USB drive and got exactly the same result. I tried IE6 and was told that I needed to have Java installed. But I do have the latest version of Java installed. I'm sort of at wit's end.

Windows XP Pro SP2 with all the latest updates.

    Can anybody help? Thanks!

Correction: The URL that makes Firefox disappear is http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ not www.secunia.com .

It works like a charm! It closes Firefox cleaner and faster than clicking on the "Close" box or clicking on File > Exit.

I'm surprised nobody has any ideas.

Doesn't crash my FF also 3.0.8. Your post mentioned Java, perhaps that's the issue?

Works fine for me too. FF 3.08

    I'd look into Java.

Wildfire, Arie, and the Old Chief: YES!!! You were right! Problem Solved!
    Reinstalling Java fixed the problem.
When I ran the Java install program it said that I already had the latest version of Java installed, but asked if I wanted to install anyway. Previously I had said no, since I knew I had already installed it, but this time I said yes, based on your advice.
And now I have just successfully completed Secunia's scan.

    Thank you all!

This forum is very valuable to many people, and your participation in it is much appreciated. There are not many places I could have gotten help for such an unusual problem -- and just for the asking. _Much thanks_ once again.
