    Good afternoon Staff and visitors,
I've recently switched to a Dell 4600 with Windows XP and my faithful Visioneer 7600 USB scanner will not connect to this new systems software. Can anyone offer a solution as I'd like to avoid a new scanner purchase.
    Sincerely,
    Scott

Scott: I have good news and bad news for you.

The good news is that you have company. You seem to be having the same problem I had with my Visioneer 8200 over a year ago when I got my new Dell with Win XP. Others have posted here with the same problem.

The bad news is that so far I haven't seen or heard any solution. I downloaded a driver from Visioneer that was supposed to make the scanner work with XP. It didn't. I wound up giving the scanner to my son, but it wouldn't work for him, either. Then I gave it to my my daughter, with the same result. Finally I gave it to a friend. Same thing.

If somebody can come up with a fix, I'm sure a lot of people would like to know about it. Let us know if you find one. Good luck.

    Hello BOBBO and ackerberg,
I would like to thank you both for noticing my plea for help with the Visioneer 7600 USB and answering so promptly. I have printed the two Visioneer website contents and will start the driver installation soon. Wish me luck, for the comment of the Mars Expeditionary Robot manager who said: "Expect the unexpected," certainly applies to our daily lives.

    Thanks again to all
    TTFN, Scott

    7600 installation

Let me know what happens so I can expect the unexpected when I do the installation of my 7600 on my new computer. Good luck.
Bobbo, you might be able to get your 8200 to work by trying one of these procedures using an updated driver.
You could also write to visioneer and see if there is something special about the 8200, but from what Visioneer has to say, most of their scanners will work with WIN XP.

Once again Good afternoon to the early version Visioneer users having Win XP installation problems,
Before learning from ackerberg about the Visioneer.com solutions I search Dell for scanners at their organization. They list the One Touch 9320 USB that specifically states it is Win XP compatible if you have at least 128 MB RAM.
But, of course none of use want to buy one if our older version can work. Dell offered this Visioneer for $149.00 minus a $14.90 discount. Not clear what the shipping charges might add, however.
    Take care,
Will post my results after the order for an newer version of Paperport from Visioneer.
    Scott :p

    7600 install

The document from Visioneer states that the method is good for the version 6.5 of Paperport. How are you planning to upgrade to the latest version of Paperport, v.9? Are you planning to install scanner with v6.5 and then uninstallimg v6.5 and installing v9.0? A few things to think about!

    Hello ackerberg,
I admit that I've not really thought beyond a functional Visioneer 7600 with PaperPort 6.5, since the 6.5 was recommended for the driver installation. At this point if the 7600 will perform with the older 6.5 I might just "punt" on the newer version 9.0. Too many bridges to cross; let's just get the ship back in the water.
How is that for football and naval metaphors?
Really enjoy and appreciate your input.
    All the best,
    Scott

ackerberg --Are you suggesting that Paper Port v9.0 is available somewhere free as an update? Or just that we can buy it if we are adventuresome? I have a Visioneer 7600 and will probably be getting a new PC with WinXP soon.

    Paperport 9.0

Paperport 9.0 must be purchased and is not an upgrade for 6.5. I did have a stroke of luck yesterday when I was in Staples to do some copying. I thought I would look at the box for Paperport 9.0, but the only box there was v8.0, which also works with XP. When I went up to check out the price, it came up as $0.01--YES that's right one penny with the statement that it should not be sold because it was an old version. I promptly called over the manager and told him I wanted to buy it. He said to the checkout girl, we don't need this around here, sell it to him! So I gave her one penny and took v.8 home. Anyway, I can not decide quite what to do. I was thinking of installing it, then cancelling the registration and installing the updated driver for the 7700 which should ask me to plug in the scanner and hopefully it will work with v.8---but I'm not really sure about this.
Scansofts web site states that v.8 will work with the 7700. What do you all think?

Go to Amazon.com and check out the prices of some new Visioneer products. Last year, I got a Visioneer 8700 for $25/after rebates and free shipping included. I don't do a lot of heavy scanning. But this thing works.

I have a Visioneer 8600 and it works fine on XP pro.
BTW, Scansoft makes the software for the Visioneer.

    Hello out there,
I had no idea that one simple question about my 7600 and WinXP would create such an active thread! "Out of the mouth of babies..... "
I'll now start looking at Amazon.com for items other than books!
Thanks for the tip. Still waiting for my version 6.5 CD.
    All the best, TTFN,
    Scott

ackerberg: I notice that the dateline at the link you posted is October 24, 2001. That's well before I went to the Visioneeer Web site to download a driver that would make my "legacy" scanner work with Win XP. I may well have read that same announcement at the time. As I said in my initial post, the new driver didn't help. I wonder why they haven't posted anything newer since then.

I gave my scanner away, so I won't be getting any updated driver from them, but I've been following this thread to see if anyone else can get an older Visioneer scanner to work with XP.

I've got an old Visioneer scanner but it's not the same as your's. I suspect it's much older than your's. It's a model 6000B and I believe I bought it in 1998. There's no XP drivers for it, nor win2000 drivers. Visioneer says it won't work with XP, MS says the same. The disk that came with the scanner had Windows NT drivers on it so I installed them to see what would happen. It works just as though it was made for XP. No features missing that I'm aware of. Since I installed it, it hasn't given me one bit of trouble. I know this probably doesn't help you any, but you asked if anybody had gotten an old Visioneer scanner to work with XP so..... :)

Zander: Interesting that the driver Visioneer said would make my scanner work with XP wouldn't and what they said wouldn't work for you does.

I sort of wish I still had my scanner and the disk that came with it so I could try your idea. But alas ... * sigh *
