This happened to my sons computer he has two boys that are on the internet frequently and do the msn chats as well as receive hotmail.
Last week when his wife went to type a letter a message came up and gave her a list of files and said she had a virus. She isn`t sure what the name of the virus was thought it was love bug but I can`t find any by that name. anyway when they (norton that is)asked if she wanted to repair she said yes she than left the computer went back on later and another list came on with the same question she said yes again and than proceded to write her letter.

I went to their house on Wed to see if I could find out what the problem was. The first thing I did was run the virus scan and nothing showed up. I couldn`t find the internet connection so went into Dialup networking and they were listed their I used the one that they normally used was able to get in but than got disconnected before I could update the Norton. Tried to go in again and when I went back into Dialup networking the page was blank I tried to do a new connection but it wouldn`t show up after I was done so couldn`t dial up. I finally got in using Juno which was on the desktop but was never used so had to reload it and I did get in was able to update the viruses and run it but still said no viruses.
I than went into the Hardrive which was C: and went to programme files and not one file was listed. I reinstalled windows and than everything was working again. I do not know if this is ok or not but so far it seems to be.
Norton is enabled all the time. I am really not familiar with a virus protection but if it is enabled do you still have to do a scan everyday?
Could someone explain this to me and maybe give me the name of the virus.
Sorry that all they can remember its love something my son`s wife thought it was love bug. But I can`t find any that name.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=love+bug+virus lot's of Love Bug info there for you to read.

    Good luck

oops, forgot to answer the other ? No you don't have to scan daily if you have the AV actively protecting the drive. A monthly full drive scan isn't such a bad idea just in case something snuck in between updates. Always update the sigs before doing the full scan of course.

maryelle - the default action for Norton if it cannot clean a file (remove the infection but leave the rest of the file intact) is to move the item to a Norton sub-folder called Quarantine.

You can usually check that folder and see what has been put there and when.
