Virus? Display problems

I was online the other night and I click a link which immediately changed my screen "matrix-style" to chinese/japanese writing. I closed internet explorer and found that my screen was now distorted. the icons were fuzzy and the entire screen looked like a Television w/ bad reception. After 15-20 mins the picture clears up. If i unplug the power cable then the screen goes back to being fuzzy. Even when the screen is clear, the icons related to Microsoft (publisher, word, excel, outlook) are still obscured until i actually click on the icon. I have run Trend Micro Internet Security which returned no viruses?? I would appreciate a little direction.

Try System Restore - restore the OS back to just prior to when this problem occured.
