Has anyone got the successful experience installing Virual PC on Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium edition such that Adobe Master Collection CS3 (Collection Suite 3) could be successfully installed? (It seems that Virtual PC 2007 does not support the W764HP OS.)

Why do you need Virtual PC for Windows 7 IvanH?
I am using Windows 7 Home 64 bit which ran CS3, and now CS4, perfectly.

What OS did you install inside your VirtualPC?

    Roger,

From Q&A on www.adobe.com, some CS3 users shared their successful experience by using Virtual PC. But Virtual PC 2007 does not support W764HP OEM edition and exit during it's installation.

CS3 couldn't install major components (e.g. Photoshop, Dreamweavers and etc.) on Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium OEM. How did you do that? (CS4 has no problem of course.)

You'll have to use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, since Windows XP Mode isn't supported on your OS.

That's the Virtual PC 2007 I downloaded. But during installation, it detected and responded that the OS was not supported. Ignore it and continue installation?

Stupid error on my part Ivan. Amongst three machines, various betas, and then the RC, I never got round to trying CS3 on 64 bit.

    There is no problem running CS3 on 7 x64 - I have CS2, CS3 & CS4 installed on Win 7 Pro x64 and running without issues.

Ivan - what problems do you encounter when installing CS3 ?

An installation window comes up and the components installing appear in lines. After the major components like Photoshop, it displayed "....installation failed ".

I don't know how to put the print screen on this message, or I can do it again and let you see them by yourself.

Anyhow, the http://www.adobe.com/support/OScompatibility.html has explicitedly excluded CS3 on the list!

Please note that the 7 version is HP 64-bit OEM. And now another notebook is 7 HP 32-bit upgrade from Vista 32-bit HP. I'll try again and can share with you the problems would have had encountered.

    Hi Ivan,
In the interests of research I have just installed CS3 into my Windows 7 64 bit machine with no problems, but I don't have the rest of the Master Suite to try. There have been many mentions of other installation problems being caused by Adobe Reader blocking the installation of Photoshop, and the solution in these cases has been to go directly to the 'set-up.exe' file on the DVD, right click, and 'Run as administrator'. However, I don't know if this will work with a suite. Can you install one prog at a time?

Yes. It will install just fine. It is just not supported by Microsoft, which means you can't ask them for help if you had problems.

You should not need to run CS3 in a Virtual Machine .....

Eventually I found a way to install Photoshop CS3 (Master Collection 3) from the Adobe CS3 Master Collection on Windows 7 64-bit Home Preimium!

    1. Download and install Virtual PC 2007.

    2. Insert the CS3 Disc One in DVD drive, then open foler to view files. Right click the Autoplay.exe, choose Properties, choose Compatibility tab, check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2), and on the Privilege Level, also check Run this program as an administrator. Click Apply and then OK.

    3. Unselect all except PhotoShop. Then in a few minutes, the Photoshop installed would be done.

    Notes:

In my experience, just doing #2 above didn't work! The Virtual PC 2007 must be downloaded and installed. Though a number of windows will prompt saying the OS (Windows 7 64-bit HP) is not supported. Just go ahead to install it. I ran the Virtual PC 2007 once just until the Virtual PC Console appeared. Then closed it and started the Adobe CS3 installation.

I have not tried to install the rest of applications (e.g. Dreamweavers, Flash ...) from the Adobe CS3 DVDs. I have not tried to use the default to install everything altogether yet, because it has never been working in the past attempts.

The major difference for this time success: I downloaded and installed Virtual PC 2007. Even though it's not running.

    More... please note that:

After successful setup, you may need to go to Start > All Programs > Adobe Master Collection 3 (folder), and right-click each application (e.g. Photoshop CS3) and set their compatibility mode to XP SP2 (SP3 does not work). Not doing so, you can still open the application (e.g. Photoshop CS3), but the Adobe Photoshop Extended > Help > Update will download, but fail to install.

Wish this clumsy steps help some of you guys!

    B.t.w., the current versions installed:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 10.0.1 (10.0.1x20071012 [20071012.r.1644 09:30:00 cutoff; r branch])
    Operating System: Windows XP
    Version: 5.1 Service Pack 2

Why don't I run Adobe CS3 installation from Virtual PC 2007? The PC has only 2GB. I cannot allocate 1.5 GB to Virtual PC 2007 in order to install Adobe CS3. It's not practical and I haven't tried.

I'm delighted to hear of your success, but completely puzzled as to why it was necesary to install Virtual PC 2007 first - and then install CS3 direct into 7, not the VM

FWIW I have Photoshop CS3 running in both x32 and x64 versions of 7 - just PS from PS install DVD - no Suite.

Because my only full copy of PS is 6 i have to load CS2 using my PS6 CD as evidence of owning a full version and then install CS3, also from an upgrade DVD. CS2 appears to work fine on 7 as well :)

It shouldn't be. But it's the fact. Without installing Virtual PC first, the CS3 Master Collection didn't install correctly.

I guess, just guessing, that the problem is with the installer. CS3 is not a problem, the "Master Collection" is!

Many others, who did not have such problem, were installing "CS3 Design Premium ", not "CS3 Master Collection ".
