    Hi all!

I have tried to figure out if any of my downloaded Windows Updates have been related to Microsoft Virtual Machine. The reason for this is to remove such updates from my "library" if they no longer pertain to XP without MVM.

I didn´t figure it out to 100% certainty so, I´ve got to ask if there has been any updates to the Microsoft Virtual Machine since it was installed via SP1?

Does Sun Microsystems release updates to existing versions or complete new versions?

    Thanks for Your time,
    Christer

Not sure about new updates, but Sun's java completely replaces the MS one, and adds a couple of options in IE's Advanced menu under java. Installation automatically disables the built in mess.
My only peeve, is that every page that requires java, puts an icon in the taskbar. You can close it and unload java, until it's required again, and the stupid icon comes back. Maybe Sun will figure out that we don't WANT it to stay loaded when viewing pages that don't require java, and do away with the stupid icon.

    Hi Jim,
    I finally noticed that Your name isn´t reboot ...... ...... !

I have noticed a few settings for the Microsoft Virtual Machine there but haven´t had reason to change anything.

Not many pages require Java ...... ...... or am I wrong? I have only one which I browse on a daily basis.

About the Microsoft Virtual Machine, I haven´t identified any updates post SP1 to have any bearing on it. Have You or anyone else?

    Thanks,
    Christer

Now it gets complicated ...... :D ...... two Jim's. I should have sticked with Your user names!

    Welshjim,
    thanks for the link!

I have downloaded the update as well as the full installation ...... you never know.

This update makes me more confident that none of my downloaded Windows Updates concerns MVM.

The java applet on this page should tell you what version you have.

    Hi Zander,
    thanks for the link!

It says that I´ve got java version 1.1.4 but I don´t have information on which version is the latest/last update.

I´ll have to look some more!

Christer--Sorry, only now do I see your post asking how to determine what version of MS Virtual Machine you have.
That applet to which Zander referred you is handy, but gives the version in Sun Java nomenclature. The simplest way to get the MS version nomenclature is by typing jview and clicking OK at an MS-DOS Prompt.
Guess this info will not be too useful in the future. And I see you have determined the version on your PC already.
    :(

    Jim,
    nothing to be sorry about!

This wasn´t of any urgency at all and any reply at any time makes me ...... :) ...... !

However, would that be the same at the command prompt in XP?

Hey Jim, thanks for jumping in with the jview command. I've used it in the past and knew it was available but couldn't for the life of me remember what it was. Did some searching but didn't come across it but found the java applet in the process. Oh, if you're wondering, the jview command does work in XP.

    Hi Welshjim and Zander!

I did try it but only saw a few suggestions of command switches but none of them seemed to apply to the displaying of version number.

The next time I went there, I read it all and the version number was included in the second row.

I really need to set up that appointment with my optician ...... ......

    Thanks,
    Christer
