    Windows 7, 64-bit

I shrunk drive "C" using the space available according to windows.
Then created another partition within the new partition.

When i rebooted the system, the new partition was there and
I can read/write to the new partition with no problems. Looks good.

When i try to go into disk management (Start>Admin tools>computer management>
    disk management)
    I get a message saying:
"Unable to connect to virtual disk service "

    and a popup window stating:
Disk management could not start Virtual Disk Service (VDS) on
savagcl-pc. This can happen if the remote computer does not
support VDS, or if a connection cannot be established because it was
    blocked by Windows Firewall ".

Turning off windows firewall did nothing.

The Troubleshooting help was confusing to me.

"Windows could not start the Virtual Disk Service on local computer ".
Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified.

Get same error for Volume Shadow Copy service.

Both services are set to "Manual ". I didn't physically change any services.

A search of the web shows lots of this condition but with different fixes
which don't seem to work for me.....

    Suggestions,
    savagcl

Found out windows backup/restore won't work either because of the Volume

    Still searching for solution -

During install of win7, i had to choose a network (i'm not on a
home network or any other network). Anyway, on vista, my
    connection was "my pc----------internet ".
Now it looks like "my pc------network 3--------internet ". Does
    this matter??

Tried to re-install win7 ultimate. Got as far as loading of the
temporary files. Then the installer says it cannot retrieve information
about the disk on this system??

Far as i can tell, the disk is working, I can run my programs, defrag,
    etc....

    help,
    thanks,
    savagcl
