I am running the trial version of Clipmate but would be grateful if anyone who actually uses or has used this software would be able to advise if there are any pros and cons with it.

I am running XP HE sp1 and have only started to use Clipmate. I realise there are a lot of features and it does a lot more than the actual clipboard that XP has. One thing that did concern me was the fact that RegProt alerted me to a change in the registry after I had accepted the initial install key. I rejected the other key as normally when this happens it is part of a 'call home' type key therefore this has prompted me to ask advice on the actual program.

I did like the fact that it uses an encryption tool as this is useful for password data but if the program itself has more 'gimick' type features I would prefer to use a password keeper in it's own rights. I have used some of the features including the screen shot but have not explored everything.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can add to my research on this software.

a great program, but not for the faint hearted as it can take over your machine with spyware and internet tracking ware, if you have just put on the demo or trial version, use sytem restore after you have finnished playing, it is the only way of getting rid.

    Cheers. jim

    Hi jimbob

I was concerned about the 'call home' type software and decided to contact the developer today myself. I was assured that this was only used when a pirated key was detected as result of a fraud etc
I must admit the re-assure me somewhat but now I have read your reply I am not at all sure

Further help received just now about this matter which I have asked Thornsoft about.
I do run Ad-aware/Spybot and TDS-3 and scan daily and know that they have not found anything on my test PC so hopefully everything is OK. I would say if I decided to uninstall then Registry First Aid should find anything left over. I will still research this but am a little more assured now.

Thanks for this Abraxas, I trust RoseCity software 100% and will give this consideration. I do like the fact that it sits silently and as you have posted is 'reliable'. I will read more about this but from the little extract on the link it seems to do the necessary things Clipmate does.

I do like the 'encrypt' feature Clipmate has as I can keep my passowrds locked up for ease of access but I would prefer to have a totally reliable porgram.

I haven't used Clipmate long enough to know if it is stable or not but will certainly look at Clipcache now. Thanks again.

My ClipBuddy worked pretty well, but the settings for saving on exit and so on didn't work as advertized. That was OK most of the time, unless I had a crash and lost my clipboard contents when it was important (not too many crashes).

ClipCache saves its contents to file every 10 minutes (can be changed). There's a trial, so why not?

AIRoboform can encrypt your passwords and pops up to fill them in. You can set it to require a password for acess each time or per session. Not sure, though, how much of this is available with the free version. But it has no spyware at least.

Thanks again for the added info on Clipcache and I know the only way I am going to know everything is by running the trial.
It is a very good point about the saving to file for the 'just in case'

Many thanks for the 'roboform link' even better to know it does not have Spyware (I will check this out later too)

I have one other password keeper/generator software to research as it is available to purchase in the UK. I will compare both of these 'spyware free' ;) Maybe not such a good idea to have one application to do both. I feel it may be better to have 2 programs specific to their intended use.

I went through a similar search not too long ago. Ended up settling on ClipMate. I found excellent reviews of it everywhere I looked. This thread is the first I've ever heard that CM might be spyware. I find it unlikely and I'm quite ready to trust the developer when he says it isn't.

Chris, ClipMate's developer, impressed me as being dedicated and responsive. When I was demoing CM, I found something that didn't work as expected (I use a browser shell called iRider and CM wasn't capturing the source URL for my clips). I emailed support and got a response with an easy fix maybe a few hours later. He proved similarly responsive to other emails I sent with suggestions for improvement.

When I bought CM, I was looking for fairly simple features -- mainly, organizing clips and having a place for a quick notepad. Over time, I've found several features I like a lot. For example, I like being able to pull out clips into their own windows so I may have several open at once. I like being able to merge two clips together (using the Append function). I like the text cleanup features. They do the same things as ClipCachePlus, except that I think CM's cleanup is more powerful. Not only can you remove quoting, you can also put it back into place. Very handy. I've also found CM to be very stable.

WRT Rose City's ClipCachePlus: isn't it the same as XRayz's? The screenshots sure look the same. If so, the development history of CCP is something you may want to consider. The only update they list since Dec. 2000 is a new installer. CM, in contrast, is under active development.

Just a very satisfied customer of CM.

P.S. there's a $5 discount for CM currently available here:

Hi hds, I spent a while last night on the Clipcahe forum as I thought this would be the one for me but when I read about the lack of support plus the fact that the program had not been updated it made me stop and think.

I have just logged onto this forum again and am pleased that my second thoughts were not just me. I really do like to know all sides of the various software before I commit myself to using it. This is why I do a little homework on my options as there are certain aspects very important to me with any software.

I can standby the fact that Clipmate has support as when I first had the issues and concerns I had were answered within a very short time by the developer himself. This is very re-assuring as I have yet again asked about apsect of CM and the e-mail has been replied to without delay.

BTW - thanks for the link for the discount, I hope to have made my mind up before the 16th so will use this link to purchase if possible ;)

I realize that this thread took place a month ago, while I was away. However, I just had to add my two cents, since I've been a VERY happy ClipMate user for years. I've used versions 3, 4, 5, and now 6. In all that time, I've NEVER--repeat, NEVER--seen any indication that ClipMate was or included spyware. I run both AdAware and Spybot, as well as NAV, The Cleaner, and a firewall, so if there were spyware or if ClipMate were phoning home, I'd know it.

Frankly, ClipMate is probably the program I'd miss most if it weren't on my computer. I love it! Also, on a couple of occasions, I've had questions and have written to ClipMate for help. I always received prompt and useful responses from the developer.

I have no financial interest in the company--I just love the software.
