I once was able to move my mouse over a word document file and have a pop-up window show me what was written in the document. Maybe I had to right click I can't remember. Does anyone know of software or freeware that can do this? It was very handy for editing and deleting files without having to open them up to see what was there. Can someone help?
    Thanks

You had to have an third party app that did this for you. I've never seen it and I've been using Word for years.

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for responding. It was actually with Word Perfect documents. It worked the same way this web site does when you move your mouse over a title in the postings and it shows what is written in a pop-up box. How do they do that?

Have you looked through all the options in Word Perfect to see if there is a setting option?

    Thanks guys,
The microsoft site was not the answer. It's not viewing the folders as such, it's a pop-up window showing part of the actual document. Like "Dear Mr. Jones ". I found something similar but still does not do a pop-up like I had before with the software called "Quick View Plus ".
Steve, you asked if I had looked into Word Perfect options. Would that be sort of like reading the directions before putting something together? Sadly, I have to admit I have not! Thanks for a simple reminder, I'll see what I can find.
As I mentioned earlier, when I move my mouse over a title in BBS postings I get a pop-up box that shows part of what is written in the posting. Can that be duplicated on files in windows explorer?
    Thank

The pop up you see on a sight like this is an option built into the vBulletin software.

Yes, the MS site won't tell you how to get that preview effect because it's not a function of the op sys, it must be 3rd party software that performs that task. Some graphics apps have a feature like that and likely yours is a feature of some word processor app. The feature integrates with the op sys so a description is displayed onmouseover.

    Steve and Tony,
Thanks for all the help. I did find something in Word Perfect that does what I need. Not exactly what I was looking for but it accomplishes the same result.
In Word Perfect when I go to open files I then can go to view and click on the preview file. This allows a small preview of the file to open up next to the window explorer box showing whats in the file. I can choose to delete it without having to open it up in Word Perfect first. Saves me time cleaning up my files.
    Consider my problem solved!!
    Paul
