When I download web-site information to "Windows\Offline Web Pages" and click it once I am offline, it gives me the "The page cannot be displayed ". However my previous computer using W98 would give me the option to view the information offline. Can I restore this facility on my present Windows Me
    to view the information offline.

    Kind regards,
    Pat

Pat Alley--Never tried downloading directly to Windows\Offline Web Pages.
Try clicking Favorites on the IE Toolbar (right below the Menubar) when you are at the page you want. In the left panel, click Add|Customize and follow directions. Do not forget to Synchronize at the end.
This saved page will refresh to the latest version when you connect to the internet depending on your settings in IE Tools|Internet Options|General tab|Settings.
If you want to keep the page the way it was at the time you first created it offline, rather do a File|SaveAs|and in the Save Webpage window on the "Save as Type" line, chose WebArchive (.mht). Now you have created a .mht file which you can put anywhere you want and can view it in IE by just clicking on it.

Jim thankyou for the reply. My phrase, "Downloading directly to Windows\Offline Web Pages" implied the method you suggested namely 'Add to Favorites',select 'Make available offline', click 'Customize',specify content to download, follow instructions on screen and finally press OK but later when offline, clicking the appropriate file in Windows\Offline Web Pages still brought up the "Page unavailable ".

I have since had another session, re-read the Microsoft Help file and synchronised without success. As you suggest, when on Internet I can save a page with 'File>Save' but makes for a comparatively long-winded procedure. Obviously I must have a setting wrong somewhere but for the life of me I can't find one so any suggestion, though perhaps undeserved, would be welcome!

    Kind regards,
    Pat

Pat Alley--A slight variation (from IE Help)
"To make an existing favorite item available offline

On the Favorites menu, click Organize Favorites.
Click the page you want to make available offline.
Select the Make available offline check box.
To specify a schedule for updating that page, and how much content to download, click Properties.
    Notes

Before you go offline, make sure you have the latest version of your pages by clicking the Tools menu and then clicking Synchronize.
You can also make Web pages available offline without adding them to your Favorites list, by saving the pages on your computer. "

That last sentence was the second suggestion in my earlier post. It seems less long-winded to me than the other Make Available Offline procedures, but, of course, it is your choice. And if you cannot make the View Offline thing work, then perhaps a reasonable work around.
