    Hi,

I just have a quick question. Browsing through folders on my computer the default view is large folder icons, which I never use. I have settings to remember my prefered view (List, in most cases) so I can change default view in each and every folder as I navigate. But I move files around a LOT, so I spend a lot of time switching to File view, or Detail view, or thumbnail...

How do I change the global default view for folders, so it defaults to List instead of the large icons?

    Thanks :)

    Welcome to WindowsBBS

Set up an Explorer window as you want it .....

Then Go to Tools > Folder Options View and hit the Apply to Folders button - wording may be slightly different in XP - that is the Win 7 text.

Unfortunately, that feature has been always flawed.
I found a fix for Vista and 7 but I'm not aware of any permanent fix for XP.

Can't say that I ever had a problem with XP in this respect.

I personally experienced that issue in every Windows version, but also, if you just Google it: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...nG=Search&tbs=&lr=&as_filetype=&aq=f&oq=&aqi= you'll see pages of posts.

This is the fix for Vista:

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; Reset and delete all saved folder customizations and settings.
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

; Turn off Vista auto folder type template discovery.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell]
     "FolderType "= "NotSpecified "

; Modify the storage space to 10000 for saving of up to 10000 folder settings.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
     "BagMRU Size "=dword:00002710
but as far, as I remember, XP doesn't have those settings.

There was a 'bags' setting in XP - I used it :)

Oh really? I thought, it wasn't fixable on XP.
    Good to know. Thanks :)
