Operating System is Windows XP and Vista.

    Problem background:

    a. We have many folders - My Music, My Pictures etc.
    b. We open the My Music folder and view them in "Detail mode ".
    c. We open the My Pictures folder and the view there is "Detail Mode ".
That is not what we want for pictures so we change to view in
    "Thumbnails Mode ".
    d. Later we view the Music files again and they are now in "Thumbnail Mode ".

And so it goes - the last view mode selected is what all files are !

    Question:

How can we set the Music files to always open in Detail Mode and the
Picture files to always open in Thumbnail Mode ?

    Thanks

On the menu, click Tools>Folder Options>View tab. Click 'Reset All Folders' button. Scroll down and make sure the box is checked next to 'Remember each folder's view settings'. If already checked, uncheck, click apply, then recheck it. Click apply and OK. Now set each folder to the view you want and see if it sticks.

    Viewing files

Ok, we did what you suggested.

And we did not get what we desired.

    Here is our question:

    1. We open a folder (Example: Music) and have the settings set (as you suggested) to view in "Detail" mode.

    2. We not proceed to another folder (Example:pictures). The files are listed in "Detail" mode. That is not good here - we want to see pictures.
So we change the view to "Thumbnails ".

    3. Later we go back to the music folder.
It is now in "Thumbnail" mode. (We viewed them in detail only a bit ago !).

Question: Can we view the Music files in detail mode "and" the Picture
files in thumbnail mode without having to set up the view options each time we go to a different folder?

We did a bit of setting up over and over.
Seems that the setup will change all folders to the setting of the last
folder set up. That's bad ! Any way around this ?

Please open My Computer, click Tools>Folder Options>View tab. Click 'Reset All Folders' button, then click the 'Restore Defaults' button below. Do NOT at any time click the 'Apply to all folders' button. Click OK and close the My Computer window. Open My Pictures ........ it should be thumbnails view. Open My Music ....... it should be details view. My Computer>Local Disk C: should be Icon view. Are they?
