In the past I was able to view the available wireless networks in my neighborhood. Today I tried to view them and I received an error message that this capability was not longer available unless I activated something described in MS document #871122. How could this ability to see the networks suddenly disappear? Did one of the MS updates remove this capability? My OS is WIN XP Pro SP2.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Have you recently updated to sp2 ??
    Have you tried MS solution??

Error message when you try to run the Wireless Network Setup Wizard after you update to Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.

    Dennis,
I updated to SP2 a long time ago and am afraid to use the MS solution because I worry that it might cause my wireless router to have a problem. Since I did not have a problem and now I do, I wonder what might have caused it.

You may receive that warning message if a third party wifi connection software has taken control of your wifi connections. To remedy, double-click the Windows wifi icon in system tray. Then click on "view available wifi networks ", then click on "Change order of prferred networks ". Then, in the wifi dialog, place a check next to "let Windows manage..." at the top of the dialog. Then disable the 3rd party connection software from loading at boot, either via Start > Programs > Startup or via the registry or via the program's preferences itself.

Thanks Tony. For some strange reason the Zero Configuration Service returned without my doing anything.
