I have an NEC LCD monitor, and I enjoy playing simple video games on my PC, and I like finding fun free games.

On my old PC I had Happyland Adventures, and enjoyed that. But that PC was Windows XP and the monitor was the older basic style. Now I have Windows Vista, and an LCD monitor.

I recently installed Happyland Adventures on the Vista PC and I can hear the music playing, which means the game is there somewhere, but my monitor is black/blank and in the center is a little blue window with the message
    "OUT OF RANGE "

I don't even know for sure what this means, let alone how to fix it, but I am assuming that a monitor setting is not quite right for this game or something like that.

Could someone enlighten me??? And hopefully suggest a way to fix it?

    Cordially,

    Hi,

Try going to Start -> Help and Support, type in compatibility and search for that. You can read through some of those, but the one that might be most applicable is "Make older programs run in this version of Windows ".

You may need to find out what resolution and colours the game runs in, you should find that in the program's folder (do a search of your drive). It may be as the "manual ", a "Readme" file, a .doc file or a .html file.

Try running the compatibility wizard and see if it works.

It sounds the game is setting a refresh rate that is not compattible with your monitor.

    Follow mattman's advise.

    Hello Matt and Arie,

Whatever the problem, the compatibility wizard didn't fix it. I think maybe Arie may be right. I did tell it to run compatible for Window XP SP2, and tried it, and received the same black screen with blue square telling me "out of range. "

Whether it is monitor refresh rate or whatever, I am forced to shut down and restart to get my computer back, so it's just not worth the trobule. I guess I'll have to live without Happyland. Oh well...............I'm sure I'll live.

Thank you guys for the suggestions though. I appreciate the help.
