I have been asked to investigate the possibilty of a simple video link between two remote offices across a broadband connection.

It doesn't need to be full video conferencing, just a connection between two desks.

I have used a 3 year old logitech webcam from home, but the quality of the picture probably isnt good enough for business purposes.

Can anyone give me any advice on what hardware/software to use. I have lost touch with what is available, and I suppose even the cheapest units are a vast improvement on what I am used to.

So if anyone has any tales to tell about web-cams, extra software etc, I would be grateful. Within reason I can buy from the more expensive end of the market if required so cost is not an issue.

    Thanks

    Grunty,

I noticed today that no one has replied to your Post.

For whatever it's worth, my son and I Webcam each other on Sundays. He being on the West Coast and me being along the South shores of Lake Erie.

We both use Intels' PC Camera, USB 1.1. Can't use Intels Network Directory setup...they discontinued it, so we currently use MSN Messenger and seem to have pretty good results. (We also, in the past have used Net meeting) I have Win 98Se, he has Win XP Pro O/S, we both use DSL. We both have P IV Machines. My video is Nvidia MX440, 64Mb AGP 4X, his video is 128MB (or more) AGP 8x. This Part is important for quality video across the Net.

Your results (Video & Audio Quality) will depend on the "Traffic" at the time you are on. Even with your current camera you should get decent results, assuming you have a somewhat good Video Card.

    Hope this helps. :) :)
