For the last couple of weeks, I have had fairly frequent issues with vsmraid.sys causing BSODs, and this file can only link to the Pluscom USI-64216214L addon card. As I know it's a VIA system file, it must be to do with the drivers for one of the chipsets I listed, and I believe it is the VT6421A. Anyway, what can I do to resolve the issue? It can't be a motherboard or memory issue - it happened with both the old board and this new one. It also shouldn't be a virus - I've run a scan with two different scanners and that hasn't shown any viruses infecting this file.

I've temporarily disabled the card but I would like a quick solution please. :)

The VT6421 regular indeed does, but the VT6421A and later versions do not report the same issues, from my research in the past. And I have run the part for quite a while before the last couple of weeks without any issue whatsoever. ;)

I've updated the driver, or at least I think I have, but I'll leave this open for a while in case I get a return of the problem - it isn't definitely fixed yet! :)

Did you try using Windows' "System Restore" to roll Windows back to a previous state when your computer was functioning correctly?

    Microsoft.com > System Restore > Vista

No, for the reason that it wasn't after the install of anything, simply it happened of it's own accord (for the first time after a particularly laggy Call of Duty MW2 host, strangely) ;)

It doesn't have to be used after an install of anything. It can be used anytime you need to roll your system settings back to a point when it was working correctly.

The problem with that being is that I don't know if there actually IS a system restore that far back, and also I would have so much to reinstall that the same problem would probably resume. Anyway, I've updated the driver as I said, I'll come back if it does indeed break again.

I know it has an undo, but that would defeat the point. xD

A few minutes ago, from a virus scan.

Then you have two ways to 'undo' a System Restore to a couple of weeks ago.

    --

Do you have a backup before the problem started two weeks ago?

I possibly do, but I'm well aware of the other solutions, hence why I intend to wait and see if these drivers help at all. ;)

Just been reminded of this. Unfortunately, the updated drivers did not work, and due to the fact that I also managed to damage the fascia of the DVD-RW drive whilst working on the machine, I have since removed both the card and drive from this machine, and fitted it to my other machine, and as expected, haven't had a single BSOD since. Marking it as resolved now.
