    Hi all,
after recieving a popup my computer started crashing, after logging in again I found that m computer was swarming with spyware and adware, so I then booted in safe mode in some hope to connect to the internet to remove whatever viruses I may have gotten with the help of trend micro housecall, however I then find out that I can't connect to the internet in safe mode, after restarting my computer I found that I could no longer boot windows at all even in safe mode!
The only option I could see was to reinstall windows, connect to the internet and then remove all the viruses, after doing this I tried to boot my original installation of windows xp but got the message: "D:\windows\system\vgaoem.fon is either missing or corrupt blah blah blah" I then followed all of the instructions on the microsoft help site however could not copy it, I then tried directly copying it in windows explorer, after doing this however I am still faced with the same message!
so I thought "no big deal, Ill just copy all my files onto this installation" but further to my horror when I tried to open the files I got an "access denied" message, because I password protected my old account (big mistake?)
so I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me how I could either fix my old windows installation or at least access my old files?
    thanks.

thanks, The only problem I am having is that although this "How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP" seems to be working I cannot gain access to any files or subfolders (although it seems to claim on the permissions tab of my security settings that I DO have full control of the subfolders and files) does this mean im going to have to do this process with all the thousands of files and folders i have in here?
    thanks.
