    Hi guys

I have a rather old laptop running win7 sp1. Sometimes when it restart, (normally set to resuming from hiberation), it takes a while. Forcing it to go into Safe mode, i found that the last slow loading was from a rather outdated Avast antivirus .sys.

After updating the antivirus to the current latest version the problem seem to go away. But sad to say it came back. Using safe mode boot I found the file is aswArDisk.sys. After completing the safe mode, normal rebooting is ok.

I am not sure what is the cause. I imagine that is a problem reading this file during the loading. I have not experience any read / write instance in using the Ltop, perhaps some lag in window exploring .. this I do imagine it may be the old hard disk as the culprit or is it some thing else. Hope you experts can share your experience.

Hi FuzMic, I would use ADW cleaner to clean out any odd stuff and then try another AV program.
    https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

W7 used to run MS essentials but there is no support for it now.

    Top Picks
    • Avast Free Antivirus.
    • AVG AntiVirus FREE. I used this for years and loved it
    • Avira Antivirus.
    • Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition.
    • Kaspersky Security Cloud Free.
    • Microsoft Windows Defender.
    • Sophos Home Free.

As MrBill has suggested, I would try AVG Free.

Thank you folks for the advices.
For your info removing Avast sys in win7 don't have file explorer delay. I don't see such slag in win 10 with Avast. Could all these be due to win7 compatibility with Avast

Why don't you just use Defender AV which is builtin W10?? (see MrBill's signature).
W7 you will need a third party AV because support has finished from MS.

I personally found a number of years ago that Symantec (Norton) were the biggest Resource hog ever. Back in the days of XP,
I had to wait about 10 mins before I could use the Comp after Startup as Norton AV and Internet Security completely took control of the comp!
I had a Symantec Techo spend 3½ hours removing their junk to enable finalizing of the new AV!!!
