Experiance vertical purple lines in IE browser. not on every site, but happens on credible sites, such as the local newspaper company and local government sites.

The only way to stop it is to close all IE windows and restart IE.

If I copy or save the page to my hard-drive, no problem.
If I save JPEGS, no problem, but if I save BITMAPS, the Vertical Purple Lines show up on the bitmap.

It doesn't seem to slow the computer down, just makes me sick at my stomach because of the color.

Using Windows 98 and IE6 (has happened in IE4 also).
Compaq Presario CPU & Monitor purchased in 1999.

Hmmm...very strange! I could suggest maybe you going to add/remove programs in control panel, and double clicking Internet Explorer in the list, and then when the window pops up, try picking repair Internet explorer, this may fix your problem. If you have Windows ME or XP maybe you may want to do a system restore before the point when this problem started happening?

If your still using the original video adapter that came with the PC I'd check Compaq's site and see if there is a vdieo driver update available. If you have have installed a newer video card check that manufacturer's site for an updated driver.
