Hello folks. I was browsing this board and found there were other individuals who had the same problem I am having.

I see vert. black lines in my add/remove program window. From the post I was referencing (http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=43088) I saw that there was a resolution. The problem is, for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get this thing to remove.

All of the steps are there in that thread, but unfortunately I am not bright enough to work it out...if anyone with some expertice could tell me how to remove "Ringtone Ripper" from my registry, even though I cannot see it on my A/R programs?

Thanks in advance for any help and I will be checking back frequently.

    Hello, fellow new member
If running XP, you can try to restore to a point before the problem existed
    System Restore

If you are looking for ringtone ripper references in your registry, you can try this.
REMEMBER, editing the registry can be dangerous! So we will make a backup of each key first
ALSO - Do this at your own risk, or get someone more experienced to help you!!

Go to Start > Run and type in regedit
    hit Enter
When the registry editor pops up, click on My Computer in the right hand side, just to highlight it
On the top toolbar, click on Edit > Find
A find box will pop up
Type in Ringtone Ripper, then hit Find Next
It will search for a while
When it finds a reference to this key, the key will be highlighted
Here is where we make a backup
While the key is still highlighted, go to File > Export
Give the file a name, such as Ringtone Ripper1.reg
Save to your desktop by clicking on the "Desktop" icon on the left in the Save dialog box
Now, while the key is STILL highlighted,RIGHT click on it and choose Delete

Open Add/Remove programs, and see if this solves your problem.
If not, in the registry editor, click on "Find Next" again with Ringtone Ripper still typed in the find dialog box, until it finds the next instance (if it exists)

Repeat the process of searching in the Find box, backing up, deleteing, then checking Add/Remove programs until the problem is gone, or the Find function produces no more results.
Save each backup as Ringtone Ripper2, Ringtone Ripper3 etc, just for ease

Please be extremely careful while doing this. If you are uneasy, then maybe we can try something else if neither of these are the solution to your problem

    EDIT:
I said "IF" running XP...
Seeing that is the heading of the forum....
Sorry, my old stomping grounds only had a general tech board

    Hi Corlegan,

Mind if I ask you if you know for sure that this was caused by Ringtone Ripper? Have you installed such a program or are you just assuming or hoping this is the problem application based on the past post.

In any case if this trully was caused by Ringtone Ripper the solution was to use regedit and go to this hkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

There will be an install list on the left and one of these will be Ringtone Ripper
Click on it and in the right hand pane will be keys and values. One of these will be an "UninstallString" this will contain the string needed to uninstall the app. You need to double click on the key to open it up and highlight and copy that string. Cancel any changes to the open value for "uninstallString ". Close registry. Paste the copied string on the startmenu>run line and hit enter. If your lucky it will offer repair or uninstall option. If not you may need to install this app once again to uninstall it properally.

NOTE: UninstallString value is the "command line" used or called to uninstall the app.

    ========
This is a cut N paste of the quoted fix using the posters own words from the link you referenced:
    ------------
If this is not Ringtone Ripper related, please let me know. I may have another solution for you.

    Hi DumbTerminal and welcome.

BTW - Ann's specialty is posting very detailed and precise 'how to' information but her sub-specialty is thinking to ask the questions we shoulda thought to ask but didn't.

I think at latest count I am up to 109 times of her asking a question and me slapping my forehead when I read it and saying to myself, "now why didn't I ask that ". :D

Yes, I remember dealing with this before.
This is the correct place to look for it in the registry, but I think it is that there is a corrupt entry after the last good one. So if ringtone ripper is listed, check the next one and see if it is in add / remove programs too. Basically you are looking for an uninstall entry which does not show up in add/ remove programs.

Noahdfear has a script which lists the uninstal entries, may be of help.
