Any ideas if and how this might be accomplished? Still trying to track down the slowness on a UBB board... any ideas on this using Netscape and/or IE would be greatly appreciated:

    Tranquilo? Got any ideas... I know you're a good enough "improviser "... ;) :D

    Dreambird,

The quick and dirty solution (on windows) is to use proxomitron after disabling all features, then just use the log it creates to compare the results in different browsers. I'll keep an eye out for anything else and post back...

Thanks Tranquilo... the thing has a list of features a mile long... looks "useful "... :D

Disable all those features? Including the Proxy? It might not work well with my cable connection.

I can try it on Windows98se with NS and IE.

    Dreambird,

Yes, disable all the features, since you don't want to filter the page, just log it. In netscape (or the dreaded IE), you need to set it up as a local proxy, using port 8080 (I think that's the default).

for http (and https if needed)

    localhost (or 127.0.0.1)
    port 8080

then just activate the log window, and disable (in proxomitron) web page filters, outgoing header filters, incoming header filters, freeze gif animation and remote proxy. Then you should be able to use the log window and see what is passed between netscape and the site. Then you should copy the info to notepad or any other text editor. You can even log a whole session at the site where you are having the problem (whose name escapes me at the moment...). I will keep looking for other tools that are simple to use. ;)

The log window has a few options of it's own... you may wish to check out the edit menu.

Additionally, proxomitron is an excellent program, useful for many things that have nothing to do with ad blocking.

    Muchos Gracias Tranquilo... :)

A couple of us will probably give it a try... problem site is here http://www.techsurvivors.com

Please don't go trying the program on the site until I pass it by our server... ;) Want to make sure it's not going to set off her security...

I think it's the UBB software that's the problem... v6 is awful... the support is worse, IMO.

    Considering dumping it.

    Dreambird,

It shouldn't set off anything, since you are just logging your communication between the server and your computer, nothing more-nothing less. The traffic comes and goes anyway, you are just logging it for further investigation. No harm done at all. All proxomitron and similar programs ever do is filter what you see, without affecting the site at all. The magic of the internet...lol.

Yup, she just said the same thing... just wanted to be sure. I got myself into trouble with too many pings one day... duh!

    The Internet... magic?...
    Is that what it is?

I'll give it a try and let ya know what happens... or come hollering back for help... ;)
