After a mobo failure I upgraded the mobo (GB P45), RAM (2x2gb DDR2), CPU (E-8400), and to replace my aging RAID0 array of 2x36gb Raptors I bought a 150gb Velociraptor. From the beginning I had trouble:

    1. Could not complete a defrag with Norton Speedisk, never getting past 12%. Win Defrag would complete, however.

    2. While cloning to another drive using the VR as the source, True Image v11 would complete 26%, then stop with no error message. OTOH, a clone with the VR as the destination would complete. Acronis had no clue, and I tried v12 with the same results, even using a bootable CD instead of the Windows method.

    3. Today while doing a virus check with NAV it locked up again requiring a reset.

I then replaced it with a single 36gb Raptor from which it was cloned yesterday, and I am having none of these problems with this 5-year-old drive.

I'm thinking the drive has a read problem. All of the above issues involve the drive reading, not writing. My question is should I replace the drive or give up? Does this sound like an inherent incompatibility of some sort, or
a defective drive? I would love to make this work, as the drive is quiet and fast.
