However, I just discovered today on my Initial system in the network MS-98SE
all my mail IN & SENT prior to Jan 18-03 has vanished. There were also
Specific Folders (monthly) under Inbox & sent containing each months mail for 2002..
    All dissapeared..??????
    Am I a loser or what?????/ ROBINT:rolleyes:

    Hi ROBINT,

You are definitely not a loser!!! Are you using the same Profile on your Laptop as on your other PC?
Are you using a Theme other than Modern or Classic?

Some things for you to try:

    Close Netscape
Open Windows Explorer and browse to your Mail Folder
    Delete all Inbox .msf files
Do NOT delete any files without .msf extensions

In the Netscape 7.0 Mail & Newsgroups Account|Server Settings, ensure that the "Local Directory" setting points to the correct folder.
Enable "When Netscape starts up Open" Navigator Mail & Newsgroups
Include the -browser -mail command switches to your Netscape icon
    Disable QuickLaunch
    Disable Empty Trash on Exit

Configure Mail Check Time Interval for every 10 minutes
    OR
    Deactivated the automatic mail check.
    Edit|Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings|Server Settings
Disable "check for new mail at startup ", and "check for new essages every XX minutes "
That way, you only check mail when you select "Get Messages" from the GUI. No auto-checks will occur.

    Disable Popup Stoppers
    Disable AV & Email scanner

Let us know if none of the above works, and you continue to have problems.

    To locate all (msf)
I did a Find..and found all (37) missing (msf) files. Dated & Folders as I first stated....Do I really have to delete these ?
Not sure right thing to do..???

Amazingly I also discovered all past versions of Netscape...Now I'm really confused..
I know I deleted them, way back when I installed Netscape 7.1 from purchased disk.
    I feel I should proceed with caution..ROBIN

    Hi ROBINT,
It's the right thing to do, ROBIN. The msf files will be rebuilt when you next open Netscape. Remember.... close Netscape before deleting the msf files. The msf files are the summary, or index files which contain the custom settings for your Mail & Newsgroups. These files are the first place to look, when you have corruption in your Mail.
When you uninstall a version of Netscape, the Profiles folder is left. It is not automatically uninstalled.

Yes, you definitely should proceed with caution, and determine which Profile Netscape is actually using. Once you have established that Profile, then you can proceed to copy all Mail to the existing Profile. That would be the files without the msf extensions.

NOTE: these files will replace any existing files in the new Mail folder. You will first want to rename the Mail files, e.g., change Inbox to OldInbox, etc. The renamed files will appear in the Netscape 7.01 Mail. This will ensure that you lose no existing mail.

In your Mail & Newsgroups Preferences, under "Server Settings" does the path point to the correct Profile?

Also, are you using the same Profile on your laptop, as the one on your Win98 PC?

    Post back with any questions.

    Ramona :D
