    Values?

Below problem applies to Excel 2000.

When I fill in a 0 (zero) in a cell where there's a formula already entered, the value of the cell changes to 'value#' When I open a new sheet and enter a 0 in a cell, it disappears. Cell formats appear to be ok. Just to be on the safe side: Office has been reinstalled. Nothing apparant in Regional options. Office language is set to UK.

    Any ideas?

Go to Tools > Options > View tab - Window options and make sure 'Zero Values' are ticked.
This suggests to me an error in the formula in the cell - you may need to use an 'IF statement, i.e. =IF(D1117>0,H1116+D1117,IF(F1117>=0,H1116-F1117,0)) - copied from one of my spreadsheets.
