In the past, I had a routine or it was part of older versions of Netscape (not sure which) such that you could run a search (took a while) on all your bookmarks to validate that the URL was still a good one. You could also do other things with bookmarks, but this was the one I used the most. Does anybody know of such a routine or add-on to Firefox so that I could do that now? When I searched the Firefox add-ons as well as download.com and PC mag downloads, I could not seem to find anything like that.

    Thanks:

I remember using the "validate bookmarks" feature in a NS4.x version. I, never saw that in any later versions of Netscape, Mozilla, Seamonkey or Firefox.
There is an extention, or something like that called Check and Get. There is an older free version , as well as a Shareware ( I don't anything more than what I see, doing a Search).
Personally, considering the time involved in the validation, I don't think that it is worth paying for this. and even the free version does not add too much. But, it is your choice.

    jorjab,

This is the program I used for several years with Netscape:
    http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html

I found it to be quite helpful in checking for outdated, or incorrect links. It's really fast too!

Nice little program, Ramona ... works like a charm with FF 2.0.0.3. It reported one or two good links as bad but, given that it says I have 1248 bookmarks, I'd say that's not too shabby.

The one place it falls short, IMHO, is its inability to delete bad links. I've requested that ability, if it's possible to implement, from the author.

    Ramona thanks,
this comes close to what I need and it does work very quickly, but unfortunately I have many bad links.

As Jim suggested, the ability to remove the bad link would be a definite plus also it would be nice to be able to edit the link. Some of the bad links I had just needed to have the tail portion removed to make them work.

It is difficult to go back and find all of them (I have sooo many bookmarks - over 4200)

I guess when you have people nice enough to create free routines for others we should not complain too much.
