    Hi,

I remember reading somewhere that I can't backup directly to my
CDROM drive. The only option I see is floppy drive or hard disk. Do I have that right? Do I need to put my backup file on the HD and then burn to a disk using my burner?

Yes - you have remembered correctly, the backup facility will not write to CD/DVD.

You might like to look at SynchBack - freeware - which will back up to CD provided that it is formatted and mounted through InCd or similar. Probably other freebies around if you Google.

Thanks Pete. What does 'mounted through InCd' mean? Sorry I am not familiar with the InCd term.

With InCD you can format a CD and Windows will then see it as a drive and, assuming the CD is in the writer, you can drag, drop/copy,paste files to/from it. When the CD is inserted into the burner it is 'mounted' by InCd and becomes operational, so to speak.

I can just do a backup to my desktop and then burn it to cd. Right?

You can, but I would suggest making a folder on your hard drive - 'Backup', backup to there and then burn to CD. Files on the desktop can be problematic.

Do check that the Restore function of Backup works OK from the CD once you've burnt it.

Okay. Once I do the backup, it's a pretty big file. How do I break it up so I can put on CD. When I tried to open the file using explorer, I get the restore/backup wizard pop up.

    A Question re: "InCD "

    Hello Alicia and other Contributors/Readers,
I'm curious also about the term "InCD." Is this capability to format a CD in a manner that Windows will recognize the CD as a drive reside in Windows XP? Or does one have to go elsewhere for the software to perform a InCD format?
This whole idea is interesting to me.
    Sincerely,
    langbein

InCD is part of the Nero burning package. See here.
