Is there a keyboard shortcut that allows one to highlight and correct a misspelled word without having to reach for the mouse? Firefox automatically underlines a misspelled word with a red squiggly line, but in the course of fast typing, using the mouse to move the cursor over the misspelled word and right-clicking to bring up the dictionary is time consuming.

Don't use Thunderbird, but take a look at this extension which appears to be customizable .....

Sorry, Pete, but I don't use Thunderbird. I was referring to Firefox instead. Maybe I should have reworded my thread title.

Curious to know where in Firefox you want this auto correction. I assumed, wrongly, that it would be in Thunderbird:(

Mozilla Firefox is my browser and the only way I can type in Firefox is in Threads and Posts in Forums. Are you sure you are able to type (at speed) other than the address bar? Like Pete, I'm curious. o_O;)

How do I use the Firefox spell checker? | Firefox Help
"Firefox automatically checks the spelling of words that you enter in text boxes containing more than one line."
"To correct the misspelled word, Right-click on it and select one of the suggested words at the top of the menu."

One can use the Arrow keys to move the cursor and Shift+Left or Right Arrow Keys to select text. One can then use Shift + F10 keys to right click. But Firefox's Auto correct feature does not seem to support the keyboard shortcut, at least not on my computer.

My laptop does not have a numbers pad as most keyboards do. The numb pad can be customized to emulate mouse functions according to this Microsoft article. Try it and let us know if Firefox Spell check works with it.

All that you mentioned, Neil, including reply boxes in various web sites. Seems like I type more in Firefox than I do in Word. Anytime you reach for the mouse is time lost if the same operation can be preformed via the keyboard.

Ctrl + left, or right, arrows will move the cursor next to the misspelled word, and then you can press the context menu key to bring up the right-click menu. From there it's easy to use the up & down arrows to select the correctly spelled word.

Thanks for leading me on to this.
